Cannonball is Europe’s largest road trip, which brings over 150 supercars to the roads and towns of Ireland. This year I embarked on my own mini road trip to Ballina, Co. Mayo to check out the awesome cars on display and take a few photographs. We were incredibly lucky with the weather this year, with the sun shinning so the cars looked fab and people could relax and enjoy themselves. There were all kinds of amazing cars on show from Ferraris to Bentleys and a few interesting characters too! We were also treated to an air show where a stunt pilot performed loads of insanely dangerously looking... Read full post
It’s your wedding day and one of the more recent questions facing a couple is whether to have a wedding free of mobile phones, selfies, and status updates or to embrace the social media craze and collect all the hilarities using a personal hashtag. A hashtag (#) is a universal method of tagging posts, tweets, and status updates with a searchable word or phrase. Anybody than can then search for that phrase (the hashtag) and discover all of the posts that used it. As a wedding photographer I can see advantages to both approaches so I thought I would share my own insight into the debate.Read Full Post
Today is Reek Sunday, where people from all over the country travel to Mayo to climb Croagh Patrick. A couple of days ago I decided to document the climb with my camera and tell the story of the day with images, and I couldn’t be happier with the result! As I approached Westport this morning, just before 8am, a large dark cloud loomed ominously over the mountain in the distance, not a good sign I thought. I arrived in Murrisk, parked and slung my camera over my shoulder and gazed up at the thick cloud covering the top, not much of a photo there I thought, so I moved on and began to ascend.Read Full Post

To celebrate the Gathering 2013, Castlebar hosted "In Humbert's Footsteps", an historical re-enactment of the 1798 invasion of Ireland by General Humbert's French forces. These shots were taken from the "The Races of Castlebar" re-enactment where Humbert's Franco-Irish army defeated the British soldiers in August 1798. I have to say they did an amazing job, and really looked and acted the part.
So you’re getting married, you’ve booked your venue and now you’re thinking about booking your photographer to cover your special day. At candid photography we want to give you a bit of advice on what we think are important considerations before you make your final decision.
There are two broad schools of wedding photography, traditional, and photojournalism. Most photographers will fall somewhere along this continuum. The traditional approach focuses on formal, posed shots, with a lot of intervention from the photographer. Shots are organised and arranged often to a pre-arranged time-line. This style is advantageous for family portraits where it is important to get everyone together and in the shot, or when the couple have specific photo’s that they want to get.
